Ohuro Orufa was born in his home country of South Sudan in 1986 and began his education in Longiro Primary School in 1995. Before the war broke out, Ohuro's parents were farmers in South Sudan located in Lopit Mountain. In 2001, Ohuro fled the civil war in South Sudan finding refuge in the Kakuma Refugee Camp where he began his education and obtained his Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education in 2007.

In 2008, Ohuro made the decision to repatriate to South Sudan. Two years later, Ohuro joined the
Garang Memorial Secondary School and officially completed his Form 4 by 2013. Motivated to continue his educational pursuits, Ohuro was awarded a certificate for Primary Teacher Education from Regis University following an intensive six month program at the Arrupe Center.

“We teachers help both men and women learn how to read and write.”

Given his community rapport and dedication to educational empowerment, Ohuro was elected to become the Head Teacher over the Adult Education Program in 2014.

Ohuro's parents passed away back in South Sudan. ‘My mother died in 2014 due to an outbreak of cholera in the village and my father passed away shortly after in 2015 as a result of a leg injury acquired from a very young age after falling from a tree.’ Ohuro is now orphaned together with his brothers and sisters whom he cares for greatly.
