Emergency Food Distribution & COVID-19 Pandemic

The effects of the current COVID-19 pandemic are certainly being felt around the world. It brings us great sadness to report that all educational programs in the Kakuma Refugee Camp have been temporarily suspended due to the outbreak, including our Adult Education Program. But even when schools are closed, hunger does not cease. That being said, we are still striving to support the students and communities we work with to combat continued food insecurity. On March 21st, 2020 we helped to supply emergency food and supplies provisions to those whose daily struggle for food has only been heightened by the current pandemic.

Our dedicated Kakuma Field Coordinator Reverend Jacob Nhial Guut was there to receive and facilitate the emergency distribution of food and supplies in the camp. He has sent a letter of thanks to our donors and team for making this possible:

“I am writing to express my profound gratitude to the donors in particular, although I know that just saying "thank you" is not enough to express my appreciation for your kind donation which was received today.

I am happy to let you know that your support has arrived when we need it most. With the current Coronavirus pandemic, food insecurity made life uncertain for vulnerable families. I can now continue serving the most vulnerable (refugees) by providing theme with most basic food stuffs. As the ministry of health the safety precautions against Coronavirus, I bought hand wash multipurpose soap for these Beneficiaries.

Without your financial donation, I would not be able to continue my work of empowering over 29 people each to live more fulfilling lives. Thank you again for your commitment and generosity.”
